Dan Cathy Takes the Mark of the Beast

Earlier this week the Christian charity World Vision announced that it would begin to allow the hiring of gay couples as long as they were legally married. They had not been under attack or any pressure to make this change. They did it, they said, in the name of unity and yet their statement was so very illogical it boggled the minds of all who read it.

Their decision also precipitated an immediate and profound backlash proving that Christians, when they are motivated to get up off their collective complacency are still a far more potent political force than the gay lobby or liberal Democrats. It took World Vision less than 24 hours to reverse course and return to their previous policy that stated that all single workers must be celibate and married workers must be in a one man, one wife traditional marriage.

Many will remember the Dan Cathy and Chick-Fil-A controversy from a while back where Cathy was put in the cross hairs by the gay lobby for his support of traditional marriage. That was a case where Christians and conservatives turned out in droves to support Chic-Fil-A giving them their largest single day's profit ever and silencing the LGBT lobby.

Now, Cathy, has taken the cowards way out and pulled back from his beliefs not unlike World Vision but whereas World Vision saw the light, so to speak, and backed off, Cathy has not.

Frankly, whereas before I would have gone out of my way to eat at Chick-Fil-A to support them I would now longer cross the street to one of their restaurants except to puke on their floor.

Scott Lively takes aim at Dan Cathy and Chick-Fil-A in a recent posting and gets it exactly right (from a Christian perspective). If you are not a Christian or, at least, a conservative who has been exposed to Christian thought, you probably won't understand this. On the other hand, if you are a liberal you probably haven't even read this far.

Dan Cathy Takes the Mark of the BeastMarch 23, 2014
Scott Lively

That headline is not true.  Dan Cathy of Chick Fil A has not (to my knowledge) taken the Mark of the Beast.  Yet he has done something that suggests he might be willing to take it if faced with that choice, in the same way that answering a poll is an indication of how a person will vote in an election.  As the Bible says in Luke 16:10, “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
Dan Cathy was given a great opportunity by God to show faithfulness to His truth by standing for authentic marriage.  He became a great hero to Bible-believing Christians by refusing to back down when the homo-fascists demanded he retract pro-family statements in 2012.  The mayors of Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia even pledged to deny Chick Fil A business permits in their cities (coincidentally the very penalty listed in Rev 13:17:  “they could not buy or sell without the mark”), but the overwhelming nationwide wave of support that Chick Fil A received was one of the most encouraging events of the past decade.
This week, Dan Cathy took it all back by saying His stand for God was a business mistake. (After all, one cannot serve both God and Mammon: Matthew 6:24)
Nobody knows better than I do the price that one pays for standing up to the LGBT bullies. They are not only vindictive and relentless, they are also very creative in their methods of harassment.  And there is an entire army of them ready to pounce on anyone who crosses them.  I am absolutely certain that they tried their best to make Dan Cathy’s life a constant, living hell since 2012.
Just think of the nastiness of high-profile elections in the final weeks of a campaign when the mud-slinging is the fiercest and the dirty tricks are the most cruel and invasive.  Now multiply that by ten, take away the throngs of energized supporters rallying behind the candidate being attacked (so he has to face it alone), and stretch it out over months or even years.  Throw in a few honey-tongued “hostage negotiators” pretending friendliness and concern (in this case Shane Windmeyer of “Campus Pride), promising that all the pain will go away if you just compromise the truth.  If you can imagine that you can get a glimpse of what it’s like to be targeted by the “gays.”  The greater your threat to their agenda, the worse it gets.
It’s really hard to stand up to that kind of pressure, and I have sympathy for Mr. Cathy, but it’s nowhere close to the amount of pressure that Christians will face in the days of persecution that lie ahead of us. Persecution like many of our brothers and sisters in Moslem countries, for example, are already facing.
True, defending the plain truth that God limits sexuality to the confines of authentic marriage, and specially condemns homosexuality from Genesis to Revelation, is not the same as defending the deity of Christ and your allegiance to Him.  One’s salvation does not hinge upon the perfection of one’s doctrine.  But it is still very important to God.
I am convinced that God is using the homosexual issue as a test of believers all over the world.  It’s like the “stress test” the central bankers are using to forecast which banks would fail in the event of an economic collapse.  Except in this case God is testing us for what we will do in the coming moral and spiritual collapse.  The Bible hasn’t changed, only the culture has changed, and believers are being “stress tested” to see whether they stand with Him or with the world on the things He says are true but which the world is pressing very hard to declare false.
God’s rebuke to Jeremiah when he complained about the power of the wicked should be ringing in our ears about now: “If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, Then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, How will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?”  (Jeremiah 12:1-5)
The good thing about a stress test is that it gives people an opportunity to change their ways (repent) before the final exam or the big crash.  God doesn’t care about Chick Fil A’s profit margins if they come at the expense of Dan Cathy’s willingness to stand up for the truth under pressure.  What would it profit Mr. Cathy to gain the whole world (or a few more restaurants on college campuses), if his compromise of Biblical truth today makes him less able to resist the real Mark of the Beast tomorrow?
I’m not saying that Dan Cathy isn’t saved, but he has certainly failed the stress test, and failed the Bible-believing Christian remnant everywhere, by surrendering to the “gay” bullies.  How long before we see Chick Fil A running “gay”-friendly commercials as penance for Cathy‘s “homophobia?”
Where is courage in Christendom?  Where is the loyalty to Christ that once placed love for Hid Word above every other thing, including life itself?  Why have we become so afraid of the opinions of men who hate God and His truth?
There are varying theological views about what the Mark of the Beast is, or will be, and which ones among us will face that choice of taking or rejecting it.  Nevertheless, it stands as a symbol to all Christians everywhere as the choice for or against Christ when the sword is on your neck and to choose Christ means to die saved, or live condemned to hell.  The stress test of pressure from “gay” bullies is not life or death, but it is an indicator of whether you have the faith and courage to choose Him over the things of this world.  In my mind’s eye I used to see the Mark of the Beast as a black dot on the back of the hand. Now it looks more like a Chick Fil A sandwich.  I’ll never buy another one, and I hope you won’t either.

Gag Me

I have used Yahoo as my 'home page' for years, a habit I am apparently not able to change. If nothing else it provides a large window into a decaying culture both with their list of trending searches and with what passes for news in the minds of their editors.

Today a story about Lady Gag me Gaga being upset about being compared to someone named Katy Perry (I have no idea who she is) tops a story about the rising cost of tuition causing some college students to go hungry and the rising need for food banks to feed them.

Sure, a story about the vomit Queen is important then hungry students.

Do I need to mention decaying culture again?

I Need Alone Time

Have you ever seen videos of the Philippines?

While it is true that there is some extremely beautiful nature scenes and wide open spaces that you can occasionally find on videos and movies, for the most part what you see are thousands and thousands and thousands of little brown people teeming together in large crowds. There are millions of Filipinos and they cluster together.

That may seem racist but it is not meant to be. It has been my observation that Asians prefer to be in the company of others as much as North Americans prefer time alone and wide open spaces. Not a week goes by here in this community that Filipino parties aren't going on all over the city as they group together for food and socializing.

Tess hates being alone more than anyone I know. She has to have people around her. When in the past we lived together full time that meant I had to be in the same room with her. All the time. It drove me crazy. I am not a television person, Tess is. If she was watching television she expected me to be watching so there was someone with her. It didn't matter that I was on the computer just one room away, I wasn't with her. Even now if I go to bed too early (to read) she isn't happy even if her mother is in the same room with her. For Filipinios more people are better.

When my ex and I seperated I suddenly had a lot of time alone and I will admit I didn't much care for it but as I learned to feather my own nest and grew to know and accept myself I came to prefer a lot of solitude. A LOT of solitude.

At work I would chomp at the bit for 4:30 to come (or 5:00 or 5:30, whenever I thought I could get out the door). I'd sprint for the car and be off. I'd stop at the store for whatever provisions I needed, necessary things like cigarettes and beer and, from time to time, food. I'd go home and check on the dog and change out of my dress clothes. I'd make arrangements for dinner, cook or eat out. If I ate out it would be in a quiet restaurant where I would eat and read a book and then quickly back home. Once home the old dog and I would go for a walk in good weather or wrestle and rough house inside in bad. Then it was quiet time.

I kept the phone ringer turned off and all calls went to an answering machine that beeped quietly at the end of a call. Family knew how to bypass it to rouse me if needed. I would check the calls at the end of the evening and ninety nione times out of a hundred, ignore them.

In summer I could head to the porch with a book, in winter to the couch where the only sound would be the snap of the wood stove and the dogs breathing. It was quiet.

Only very rarely did someone visit. The next door neighbor and his wife would wave, but not call out, if they were out walking. It was quiet.

Often I would take a a weeks vacation and never leave home. Just right!

Tess and I are very different.

Since Tess' mother has been here I have spent four nights a week with Tess and three nights at my parents where I cook nights a week. That means I am here Thursday nights. The start of my "weekend" so to speak. I know that sounds like a strange relationship to many but trust me, Tess is high maintenance and I need a break. And this started because it was the day her shift at work changed a bit although right now all her shifts are the same.

On the other hand some nights I am at Tess five or six nights a week and sometimes two or three weeks in a row depending on what is going on. Those exhaust me. As I have written before, Tess is an insomniac and nights we are together I get as much sleep as she does and that is not enough.

All this comes to a screaming halt next week when Tess; mother goes back to the coast. Tess hasn't spent a night alone in that house in over a year now. My nights of getting alone time will be few and far between for a while.

So tonight and tomorrow and the next night and Thursday next week I will be luxuriating in the last of my alone time. It will be some time before I get any again. I am going to tell Tess I want to start watching TV again and hook the one downstairs back up. At least I can escape to the basement for an hour at a time.
I wonder if the relationship can stand this.

Another Blogster Failure

Another night, another missed deadline. The missing posts were not restored again and this time not even an announcement that they were not restored or what is happening.

I'm not a betting man but I would bet none of us will ever see that year's worth of missing posts again. It seems to me this is just a money mine for the owners to make as much from as they can while putting as little as they can into it and it must be quite lucrative.

I do not know how many of you access Blogster with an iPad but if you did you would have noticed that everywhere is now clickable on the Blogster main page (or touchable as is the case with tablets) and touching anywhere except precisely on the target brings up an add. Tablets being the way they are I sometimes see 5 ads before I can navigate where I want to go on the iPad. It sucks. And each one of those clicks is revenue for someone.

And let's be clear, here. With databases filling up, hard drives filing up, not restoring those posts becomes a lot cheaper than fixing things, right?

Why are so many of these sites other than Blogger and Wordpress fly by night?
Seriously, folks, we all need another home to go to if things go south here, Be looking and back up any posts you want to keep.

Some of us need to exchange email addresses again too.

Ain't So Nice

Today isn't so nice.

The last two days were beautiful, beautiful. Clear sunny skies. Warm enough to ho out without a jacket.

While it is above freezing, 4 degrees (39F), there is a breeze and the sky is grey and lowery and now it is spitting snow. Great. I was hoping for another warm, sunny day to help offset my lousy mood.

The only looming bright spot is that Nanay, Tess' mother, goes back to the coast in two weeks for at least six months and, if there is a God in heaven, longer. I know Tess will miss her mom and that is a shame because her mother treats her like dirt. I will be glad to see her gone so Tess and I can have  a life again.

Well, actually, that isn't the only looming bright spot. Daughter Rebecca and granddaughter Gracey are coming down on Sunday for a week. On Sunday Tess is having a birthday party for Nanay and while that would usually be a pain in the ass this will be a special occasion for me. My mom and dad will be there along with my three daughters and all seven of my grandchildren. That will be the first time I will have had my entire family together at the same time in years and years and you have no idea how much I am looking forward to that! If I think of that warmth maybe it will dispel the gloom outside.

Turning the Basement Into A Swimming Pool

Saturday night as I was preparing to cook dinner for my parents the old couple next door invited them over for Chinese food at the last moment. The are 95 and 86. My parents both 82. They have become friends late in life. Suddenly I had no one to cook for and not wanting to cook for myself I just grabbed a pizza. Tess had already made plans for the evening with her mother so I decided I might as well do the usual and stay at the old folks for the night anyway.

My sleep has been off lately. Sleepy early in the evening I tossed and turned once I turned the light off. About 12:30 I was finally just falling asleep when I heard a pitter patter of tiny feet. I turned the light on and their was my parents little Pomeranian staring at me. I spoke to her and she laid down and suddenly I realized I was thirst I went into the basement cold room for a bottle of water and there were none there. I remembered I hadn't put it away the last time I bought it so I snapped on the basement light, located it, and was reaching for a bottle when suddenly my feet were wet. I looked left and water was pouring in under the basement door from the garage. I yelped, ran up stairs to wake up the male parental unit, then ran back down, dressed, and got the wet/dry vacuum out of the garage. While I vacuumed up gallon after gallon of water Dad found the source.

Spring has come very quickly here. We have gone from twenty below to daytime highs of 12 above. Snow is rapidly melting everywhere including from the roof. The down spout at the corner of the garage came off the outward run and water was coming off the roof onto the ice right beside the garage wall and running in the garage door before dropping into the basement. It was nearly 3:00 before the problem was resolved and the water mopped up. By then I couldn't get back to sleep. I kept getting up to check the basement and then going outside to make sure the temporary fix was directing melt water away from the house.

There is nothing like turning your basement into an indoor swimming pool.

By yesterday night I was exhausted and went to bed about 10:00. I woke up this morning with Tess shaking me and asking if I was okay and was I going to get up. I looked at my watch and it ws 10:00 in the morning. I haven't slept in that late in years and years. I felt like a sluggard. I suppose I needed it.

Today was delightfully warm again. I have started walking again. There is a lot of weight to get off this year.

So You Think You're A Christian? Probably Not. Sermon Sunday. Radical Depravity Part 1

So you think you're a Christian? Probably not.

I do not blog things like this to comfort the afflicted. I blog this to afflict the comforted.

Everywhere I go in Blogland I meet people who name the name of Christ, people who proclaim themselves to be Christians. At least eight five times out of a hundred their words and actions belie their self proclamation. In another ten percent it is their proclamation of their spiritual beliefs that belie their claim to be Christianity.

If the God you worship, if the Jesus you proclaim, is not exactly the Jesus of the Bible, the God of the Bible than, in fact, you are an idolater - you have created a God in your mind that you worship in place of the real God.

Ask any of those ninety five per cent of people who proclaim themselves a Christian (in North America) how they know they are Christians and invariably they say, "I prayed a prayer and asked Jesus into my heart."

At that point I am prone to ask them where exactly in the Bible does it say that asking Jesus into your heart makes you a Christian. That is where they begin to flounder because nowhere does the Bible say anything of the sort. In fact, the Bible rejects that assertion entirely but the level of preaching in America has reached such a dismal level, apostasy has grown so much, that most people who claim to be Christians really have no idea what the Bible really says. They have been virtually brainwashed into hell by bad Bible exegesis.

That shouldn't be surprising. Surveys show that over eighty per cent of Christians have a heretical understanding of the Trinity. Over half think that salvation is by works. Most do not understand sanctification or the atonement or justification. And, sadly, most do not understand the salvation they claim to have had but which they have never had.

More and more I am convinced that narrow road is far narrower than I ever thought. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not all inclusive. It is, on the contrary, quite exclusive.

In any event, now that I have offended most of you who claim to be members of the flock, I ask you to look at yourselves closely (2 Cor. 13:5). Be sure you are a sheep and not a deceived goat who wandered into the sheepfold.

I know, I know. I can hear you now. You are saying, "Judge not, let you be judged." Yea, well, you are taking that verse out of context and the state of biblical knowledge is such that you do not even know it.

Oh, yea, the sermon. Here it is. You won't like it but if you are going to understand the nature of salvation you need to understand the nature of depravity. Total depravity. Or, as Dr. Steven Lawson says, "Radical Depravity."

A Gorgeous Spring Day (Photos)

(Posted to Blogster April 13, 2013)

Okay. I am kidding you. This is what April 13th looked like in northern Canada this morning.

Our snow was gone. Now it is back. It is going to make father's birthday BBQ cute today.

Pain. I Am In Pain

(Posted to Blogster April 13, 2013)
I am in pain. A great deal of pain. The kind of pain you only get when you have eaten way more than you should have.

Father's birthday was yesterday but the celebration was today. My sister was here, my brother and his family, and two of my daughters but at different times. They were both doing other things today as well and their visits didn't coincide.

There was, as near as I can tell, at least 3 jumbo hotdogs cooked per person, there was BBQ ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, and my sister brought at least 2 gallons of home made New England baked beans. Then there were cookies and strawbarries dipped in chocolate and chocolate birthday cake.

You get the picture.

I ate so many baked beans I am in pain. God knows what is going to happen when they start to work. If you here a massive eruption just know it isn't North Korea.

Couldn't God Have Provided A Gift Receipt?

Someone sent me an email the other day quoting Psalm 127 in the Bible where it says that children are a gift from God.

It got me to thinking.

Why couldn't the Almighty provide a gift receipt so they could at least be exchanged? And barring that, is re-gifting permissible?

How Should We Then Live - Episode 1 - Francis Schaeffer

Nearly everyone knows that German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche famously, or perhaps infamously, said that God was dead.

What few know, because that is the depth of their knowledge of Nietzche, is that he went on to say that having killed God mankind would endure the bloodiest century in his history and then slip into a universal madness. Nietzche was quite prescient with his first prediction and the second appears to be coming true as well.

From every corner we hear the chorus that there are absolutely no absolutes. The madness of that logical fallacy going over the heads of its proponents, apparently, as the complete intolerance of those proclaiming tolerance permeates an increasingly sick culture of death and moral decay.

When all absolutes are abandoned society becomes absolute and the outworking of that can be seen in Treblinka, Sobibor, Auschwitz, Belzec or in the Soviet gulags, or Cambodia or perhaps in the streets of East Los Angeles or a house of horrors in Philadelphia where screaming babies slip past the hands of an abortionist to land on a table where scissors are driven into the back of their necks, their spinal cords cut, and their squealing  silenced all to the applause of the moral degenerates who insist it is a woman's right to choose.

Nearly everyone admits to seeing society going to hell in a hand basket but they refuse to see their own part in it, or admit it to themselves, or give up their own behaviour that is fueling the trip.

In the 70's and 80's friends were reading and listening to a philosopher and theologian in Switzerland named Francis Schaeffer. I in my hubris and intellectual conceit declared him a third stringer, a light weight philosopher, a minor league theologian unworthy of my time.

I was completely, thoroughly, and abjectly wrong. Schaeffer was a towering intellect who was years ahead of his time. He identified in the 60's, 70's, and 80's the seeds of our destruction that are now washing over us like a tsunami.

Over the next ten days I am going to post the ten half hour episodes of Schaeffers monumental series How Should We Then Live.I know I am talking into a void or, at least, Schaeffer will be. At best one, possible two of you will stick with it to the end because until you see the beginning you cannot understand what Schaeffer is saying at the last and if you do not get what he is saying then you will have no idea how to stop the slide and we will continue to slouch towards Gomorrah both individually and corporately.

I Have A Kold In My Nothe

(Posted to Blogster April 18, 2013)

I have a kold in my nothe.

Last Monday Tess and I made a last minute decision to drive to the city to see my youngest daughter and Gracey, my granddaughter. We phoned to make sure they were free and then jumped in the car.

When we got there Gracey was outside waiting and ran to the car and gave me hugs and kisses and kisses and hugs until I noticed she was sliming me. I grabbed a Kleenex and wiped a very snotty little nose that was running like a faucet and then wiped myself off. My daughter assured me that Gracey didn't have a cold and that her nose always ran when she was outdoors in the cold.

We arrived at lunch time so we all went to the Pizza hut. For the most part I played second fiddle on this trip as Gracey was all into "Lola" Tessie. Grandmother Tessie. We had a great time together and we left late in the afternoon.

By last night I was sneezing, my sinuses were beginning to hurt and then for a while, the faucet started to run but then suddenly stopped.

I got a lousy nights sleep, however, as my nose was congested and I couldn't breath. This morning I still can't breath, my nose and sinues hurt, I am sneezing steadily, and it feels like this is going to drop into my chest, I haven't had a cold in years and I am not happy about getting this one.

And, of course, my daughter phoned this morning to tell me that Gracey was coughing and her nose and eyes were running. Right.

Thanks, Rebecca. Thanks, Gracey.

I have to leave for Vancouver on Saturday, an eight hour drive. I am sure I will feel wonderful the entire way.

Eating A Ham Sandwich With Muhammad

(Posted to Blogster April 22, 2013)

Families are complicated these days.

Me? I am your typical WASP, white Anglo-Saxon Protestant although my maternal grandfather was Jewish. I live with an Asian woman, a Filipina.

Tess' brother is a gay Filipino. His partner is a white, Jewish South African doctor, Shaun. Shaun's sister, a white, Jewish, South African woman is married to a black, Muslim South African man, Imran, or, Imo/

I am quite outspoken about Islam. It is a damnedable religion of death. There is no such thing as a 'moderate' Muslim. If a Muslim is faithful to Islam he will be a radical. If he is not radical, he is apostate.

Now, having said that, Imo is the nicest one in that entire crew and I quite look forward to seeing him when I make it to the coast. We have a good time together.

Imo and Kim just came back from visiting 'home.' Imo was telling me how great it was to see his two daughters, his mother and father, and his friends. In fact, he made a point of going to the mosque for prayer so he could catch up with the guys he went to school with. He had a great vacation and while his daughters have changed their minds about joining their parents here in Canada he has made his piece with that. He said they were happy, both are engaged to very good men, and they are living in a very securely guarded housing complex.

Now if you caught the opening line here you might have caught the bit where this black, South African Muslim is married to a white Jewish woman. That should have been a clue that Imo is not your conventional Muslim.

Indeed, while Imo may attend a Mosque at home to meet friends he has never attended one in Canada
I know all this because we talked it over while drinking a few beer.

Wait a minute, you say. Muslims don't drink.

Like a said, Imo is not your conventional Muslim. We always have a few beer together when we see each other. I always look forward to it. Imo is a great guy. I consider him a friend, not just part of my odd extended family.

There is a limit to Imo's unconventional nature, however. Now matter how many times I offer I can't get him to eat a pulled pork sandwich. He draws the line at pork. He does always laugh and thank me for my hospitality though.

Oh, well, he is probably healthier for it.

We may not agree on bacon for breakfast but we do enjoy each others friendship, we both love Alexander Keith's beer, and we both agree that those radical Imans should be shot.

Gitmo Hunger Strikers Rises To 92

The news is reporting that the number of prisoners who are on a hunger strike at Gitmo has risen to 92.

Tyranny In America: Army Blocks Baptist Website

In a million years I would never have imagined what is happening in America and to America but it is and with increasing frequency and virulence. America is no longer a free nation and the values it was founded on are now considered to be hateful.

Military Blocks Access to Southern Baptist Website

The U.S. Military has blocked access to the Southern Baptist Convention’s website on an unknown number of military bases because it contains “hostile content” — just weeks after an Army briefing labeled Evangelical Christians and Roman Catholics as examples of religious extremism, Fox News has learned.

The Southern Baptist Convention is the nation’s largest Protestant denomination known for its support of the pro-life movement and its strong belief in traditional marriage.

Southern Baptist chaplains reported had been blocked at military installations around the nation. The censorship was made public after an Army officer tried to log onto the denomination’s website and instead — received a warning message.

“The site you have requested has been blocked by Team CONUS (C-TNOSC/RCERT-CONUS) due to hostile content,” the message read.

Team CONUS protects the computer network of the Dept. of Defense. The SBC’s website was not blocked at the Pentagon.

“So the Southern Baptist Convention is now considered hostile to the U.S. Army,” the officer wrote in an email to the American Family Association.

The Dept. of Defense confirmed to Fox News late Wednesday that the SBC website had been blocked — but not intentionally.

“The Department of Defense is not intentionally blocking access to this site, said Lt. Col. Damien Pickart. “We are working diligently to investigate what might be causing access issues for some of our service members and to correct the situation as quickly as possible.”

The AFA sent out an action alert urging its members to contact the Pentagon and ask them to “stop the military’s alarming trend of hostility towards faith and religious freedom in our military.”

“Most disturbing to him (the Army officer) was the fact that the military labeled his personal religious faith as ‘hostile’ to the U.S. Army,” AFA spokesman Randy Sharp told Fox News.

Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance, told Fox News that Southern Baptist chaplains on military bases around the world have been unable to access the website.

“It’s a concern for the Dept. of Defense to block the website of one of the major evangelical denominations in the country,” Crews told Fox News. “The Southern Baptist Convention has the largest number of chaplains in the military representing Southern Baptist soldiers and churches. Those chaplains need access to their denomination’s website.”

An Army Reservist contacted Fox News and said he tried to log onto the site and an “Access Denied” message appeared on the screen.

“You request was categorized by Blue Coat Web Filter as ‘Religion,’” the message read.

Richard Land, president of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission denounced the censorship and demanded that Southern Baptist soldiers be provided access to the site.

“This is outrageous,” Land told Fox News. “Southern Baptists make up a higher percentage of the all-volunteer military than in the general population. It’s outrageous that our website would be blocked for Southern Baptists serving in the military and defending the freedom to access websites.”

Land said the military censorship was part of a “disturbing trend.”

“They need to unblock the website and find out who is responsible,” he said. “That person needs to be fired.”

Pickart told Fox News the Dept. of Defense “strongly supports the rights of service members, to include their ability to access religious websites like that of the SBC.”

“With Internet technology constantly evolving, the Department is working to ensure that service members have access to an open Internet while preserving information and operational security,” he said.

Religious liberty groups were outraged by the block and called for an immediate investigation.

“This is another example of the growing hostility toward evangelical Christians in the armed forces,” Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin, executive vice president of the Family Research Council  told Fox News. “Ironically, the very people who are sworn to support and defend the rights provided in the U.S. Constitution are being denied the right to exercise those rights individually.”

The American Family Association feared it was further evidence of what they called religious hostility within the Pentagon.

“This is one more example of the Defense Department leadership allowing hostility towards faith and religious freedom in our military,” Sharp told Fox News. “The growing list of offenses is overwhelming and Secretary Chuck Hagel should no longer ignore it.”

In recent days, the Army has come under fire after an officer sent an email to subordinates labeling the AFA and the Family Research Council as “domestic hate groups.”

In another incident a group of Army Reservists were told that Evangelical Christians and Catholics are examples of religious extremists.

The Army categorized the incidents as isolated and not condoned by the Dept. of the Army. They said the presentation to the reservists was not produced by the Army nor did it reflect their policy or doctrine.

Last week, soldiers at Fort Wainwright in Alaska were told to scrape off a Bible verse reference on their weapon scopes. That verse had been inscribed by the maker of the scopes.

Among other incidents:
  • A War Games scenario at Fort Leavenworth that identified Christian groups and Evangelical groups as being potential threats;
  • A 2009 Dept. of Homeland Security memorandum that identified future threats to national security coming from Evangelicals and pro-life groups;
  • A West Point study released by the U.S. Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center that linked pro-lifers to terrorism;
  • Evangelical leader Franklin Graham was uninvited from the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer service because of his comments about Islam;
  • Christian prayers were banned at the funeral services for veterans at Houston’s National Cemetery;
  • Bibles were banned at Walter Reed Army Medical Center – a decision that was later rescinded;
  • Christian crosses and a steeple were removed from a chapel in Afghanistan because the military said the icons disrespected other religions;
  • Catholic chaplains were told not to read a letter to parishioners from their archbishop related to Obamacare mandates. The Secretary of the Army feared the letter could be viewed as a call for civil disobedience.
“All of these things make one concerned about the attitude in the military toward evangelicals, Roman Catholics and other people of faith,” Crews said. “He are hoping the military makes every necessary step to correct this.”

The incidents led more than 40 members of Congress to write the Secretary of the Army earlier this month demanding an explanation and an apology.

“This is astonishing and offensive,” read a  written by Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO). “We call on you to rescind this briefing and apologize for its content and set the record straight on the Army’s view on these faith groups by providing a balanced briefing on religious extremism.”

This Story Just Slays Me

This story from Haaretz just slays me. Do these Muslims think anyone is foolish enough to believe their lies? Notice this one comes from the 'head' of the Assembly of Experts in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On the other hand just because they are dumber than sacks of excrement doesn't make them dangereous. One cannot help but wonder how many fools in their own country believe this.

Iranian cleric: Albert Einstein was Shiite Muslim

Ayatolla Mahadavi Kani says in a video circulating in social networks that the Jewish scientist found proof to his Theory of Relativity in the ascension of the Prophet Mohammed.

An Iranian cleric claims that the Albert Einstein, the great 20th century scientist who developed the Theory of Relativity, was a Shiitie Muslim, Israel Radio reported on Saturday.

The report cites a video by Ayatolla Mahadavi Kani, described as the head of the Assembly of Experts in the Islamic Republic of Iran, who says that there are documents proving the Jewish scientist embraced Shiite Islam and was an avid follower of Ja'far Al-Sadiq, an eighth-century Shi'i imam.

In the video, Kani quotes Einstein as saying that when he heard about the ascension of the prophet Mohammed, "a process which was faster than the speed of light," he realized "this is the very same relativity movement that Einstein had understood."

The ayatollah adds: "Einstein said, 'when I heard about the narratives of the prophet Mohamad and that of the Ahle-Beit [prophet's household] I realized they had understood these things way before us.'"
Reports of Einstein's affinity to Islam circulated in 2012 as well, when the grandson of the late Ayatollah Hossein Borujerdi claimed the scientist was "corresponding with the cleric and had admitted Shia Islam was the most scientific and just religion in the world."

According to those reports, Einstein's correspondence with Ayatollah Borujerdi is kept in a London safe box. Luckily, the readers were provided with the code to open it:  B-۱۲-D.E/۱۷-V.A.E.

How Well Does It Go With Your Family?

I cooked my elderly parents dinner this evening, washed the dishes and put things away and then washed the kitchen floor. After, I went to the market for a few things they needed and then put Dad's car into the garage because he had left it out. I got everything locked up and secure and then went for a walk.

A short while ago I went upstairs to check on them. Mom was getting ready for bed. She wasn't going to sleep, just going to watch television in her room. She and Dad have different television tastes so he watches in the living room and she in the bedroom although most nights she will fall asleep by 8:45. I will go up later and check on her, take her glasses off, and turn off the TV. I do that so regularly I doubt father even knows she falls asleep with her glasses on and the TV going.

We have almost lost my mom several times in the last three years but she is on a rebound right now. Her cognitive functions continue to worsen but her physical health is improving. Tonight I was teasing her about the outlandish pyjamas she was wearing and she got to laughing. It is so good to hear her laugh.

I drove to the park by the river today and started to walk the river front trail. I hadn't gone twenty paces when the thougt struck me that I hadn't heard from my youngest daughter since Monday night and that I should call her this evening and see how things were. I hadn't walked another twenty paces when my cell phone rang. It was my three year old granddaughter Gracey, my youngest daughter's child. "Hi, Grampgramp" and then a steady stream which I caught only part off. It doesn't matter. Gracey just wanted to talk and know she was being listened to so a few comments while she babbled along were sufficient. Her needs were met and I am thrilled to hear her voice even when I don't understand what she was saying. When she finished talking her mother and I spoke about two kilometres worth.

Tuesday I took my oldest granddaughter for an ice cream after school and listened to her teenaged angst. It made us both happy, her to spew and have someone listen and me to have this wonderful child to listen to. Wednesday her mother, daughter Amy, came up to give me a haircut. She brought three year old grandson Silas with her. I chased Silas through the house and he squealed and giggled as we wrestled in the floor.
This afternoon Tess, her mother, and I were sitting at Tim Horton's drinking coffee. I looked up to see daughter Amy in line getting a cup. She saw us and came over to talk for a moment before going back to work. It always brightens my day when I just happen to run into family when I am out. This is a small community so it isn't infrequent but it is always heart warming.

When I got to my parents my mother was on the phone talking to Rebecca, my youngest spawn. This hasn't happened in a long time and is a sign of another wound healing. Rebecca originated the call - the excuse being that Gracey wanted to talk to Nana (my mother). The truth being that Rebecca wanted to talk to her grandmother and this time needed the excuse to do it. Next time she won't need the excuse.

I called my oldest a short while ago. I haven't seen her in a week. She is busy studying for her Masters Degree. She'll need to come to town this weekend at some point and has promised to stop by so I can see her and the other three grandchildren.

I don't have much money but money really doesn't mean much. It doesn't buy happiness. It can only buy the illusion of happiness so long as you can keep your head up your ass. But in family? In family I may well be the wealthiest person on earth and seeing and spending time with my family makes me very, very happy.
Utimately family is all we really have in life. Don't you have someone in your family you need to call and tell them you love them? Maybe get off he computer and do it.

Song Saturday - John Mayall - California

(Posted April 27, 2013 to Blogster)

Walking through the Red Bluff Indian Reserve yesterday I saw a clean, nice, newer Kia Magentis stuck in a mud bog just off the road. I called the RCMP and asked if there had been any reports of a stolen Kia. There had been. I gave them the plate number. It matched. I told them where it was and they said they would send an officer.

Normal car owners don't run their own cars through mud bogs on Indian Reserves.
In this part of the world if a car has been stolen the RCMP first search the Kluskus Reserve, then the Nazko Reserve, and finally the Red Bluff Reserve. The odds are about ninety percent that the stolen vehicle will be found there and usually trashed.

You can call that profiling if you want to but I call it good police work. If the odds are ninety percent the stolen car will be found on an Indian Reserve they might as well get there fast and hopefully get there before it is set on fire, maybe even get the theif.

i have a police scanner I listen too from time to time. Several times a day dispatch will send a car to deal with a public intoxication. Listening one hears:

Prince Charlie 5

Charlie 5 Prince
(Dispatch calling out the C5 patrol car and patrol answering)

DIP at corner of xxxxx and xxxxx

10-4 Prince

DIP is police code for "drunken Indian prison."

Oh, it's terrible, isn't it? Searching reserves for stolen cars. Sending squad cars to pull a piss drunk Paiute out of the street by referring to them as DIPs.

There are several reasons for alerting the officer that he is dealing with a DIP but it goes over the heads of those who want to see racism everywhere.

A couple of days ago in Paris an Iranian man attacked a Jewish Rabbi and his son with a box cutter (shouldn't they be outlawed?) while screaming Allah Akbar.

I kid you not, the news article goes on to say that police are trying to establish a motive.

Are you freaking shitting me? The motive was they were Jews and he was a Muslim. It is as simple as finding a stolen car on an Indian reserve,

I swear we have become so politically correct we've become foolish.

The river is rising, flowers are blooming and it is snowing.

I am disgusted beyond words.

The only thing that is keeping me from moving back to the warmer climate of the United States is that, well, the warmer climate is in the United States.

Rabid Hatred: Pentagon Taps Anti-Christian Extremist for Religious Tolerance Policy

But of course the military under Obama isn't fostering anti-Christian hatred.

Listen to the language in this piece. If you can't see the rabid hatred and where it comes from I pity you.
I weep for America.

Pentagon Taps Anti-Christian Extremist for Religious Tolerance Policy

“Today, we face incredibly well-funded gangs of fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces.”

Those words were recently written by Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), in a column he wrote for the Huffington Post. Weinstein will be a consultant to the Pentagon to develop new policies on religious tolerance, including a policy for court-martialing military chaplains who share the Christian Gospel during spiritual counseling of American troops.

Weinstein decries what he calls the “virulent religious oppression” perpetrated by conservative Christians, whom he refers to as “monstrosities” and “pitiable unconstitutional carpetbaggers,” comparing them to “bigots” in the Deep South during the civil rights era.

He cites Dr. James Dobson—the famous Christian founder of Focus on the Family—as “illustrating the extremist, militant nature of these virulently homophobic organizations’ rhetorically-charged propaganda.” Regarding those who teach orthodox Christian beliefs from the Bible, Weinstein concludes, “Let’s call these ignoble actions what they are: the senseless and cowardly squallings of human monsters.”

Weinstein then endorses the ultra-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), who publishes a list of “hate groups.” Alongside truly deplorable organizations like the KKK, the SPLC’s list includes a host of traditional Christian organizations (for their support of traditional marriage) and Tea Party organizations (for supporting limited government). Weinstein says SPLC correctly labels them all as “hate groups.”

Floyd Lee Corkins—the first person ever convicted of domestic terrorism in federal court under the laws of Washington, D.C.—told the FBI that he chose his intended shooting spree targets from the SPLC website's map. Corkins was arrested at the offices of the Family Research Council (FRC) after shooting a security guard in August 2012. His court documents state that Corkins intended to kill as many people as possible.
Weinstein also supports Lt. Col. Jack Rich, the Army officer who wrote to subordinate officers that soldiers who hold traditional Christian beliefs agreeing with organizations on SPLC’s “hate group” list are incompatible with “Army values" and should be carefully watched and excluded from military service.
According to Weinstein, “We should as a nation effusively applaud Lt. Col. Rich.” He adds that the nation should “venture further” than Rich’s recommendations, saying, “We MUST vigorously support the continuing efforts to expose pathologically anti-gay, Islamaphobic, and rabidly intolerant agitators for what they are: die-hard enemies of the United States Constitution. Monsters, one and all. To do anything less would be to roll out a red carpet to those who would usher in a blood-drenched, draconian era of persecutions, nationalistic militarism, and superstitious theocracy.”

Many media outlets are silent on this disturbing new alliance between fanatical secularists and leaders in the Pentagon appointed by President Barack Obama and Secretary Chuck Hagel, under which the U.S. military would officially consult with someone with such foaming-at-the-mouth passionate hostility toward traditional Christians, including Evangelicals and devout Catholics. The military—America’s most heroic and noble institution—includes countless people of faith, and this represents a radical departure from the U.S. military’s warm embrace of people of faith in its ranks.

Yet the little coverage this story is getting is positive, such as this Washington Post column that somehow manages not to carry any of these frightening quotes from Weinstein and instead actually endorses the Pentagon’s meeting with him. Sally Quinn’s Post column also approvingly quotes MRFF Advisory Board member Larry Wilkerson as saying, “Sexual assault and proselytizing, according to Wilkerson, ‘are absolutely destructive of the bonds that keep soldiers together.’”

Did you get that? They say having someone share the Christian gospel with you is akin to being raped. Weinstein makes sure there are no doubts, being quoted by the Post as adding, “This is a national security threat. What is happening [aside from sexual assault] is spiritual rape. And what the Pentagon needs is to understand is that it is sedition and treason. It should be punished.”

Another MRFF Advisory Board member, Ambassador Joe Wilson (the far-left husband of CIA employee Valerie Plame from the Iraq War’s yellow-cake uranium scandal a decade ago), said a military chaplain “is to minister to spiritual needs. You don’t proselytize. It’s a workplace violation.”

In other words, it should be the official policy of the United States to decree what a human being’s spiritual needs are, and punish for violations a military officer who is an ordained clergyman who attempts to share his own personal faith with another service member when discussing religious matters. You cannot imagine such a thing ever happening under any previous president.

Weinstein goes on:

If these fundamentalist Christian monsters of human degradation … and tyranny cannot broker or barter your acceptance of their putrid theology, then they crave for your universal silence in the face of their rapacious reign of theocratic terror. Indeed, they ceaselessly lust, ache, and pine for you to do absolutely nothing to thwart their oppression. Comply, my friends, and you become as monstrously savage as are they. I beg you, do not feed these hideous monsters with your stoic lethargy, callousness and neutrality. Do not lubricate the path of their racism, bigotry, and prejudice. Doing so directly threatens the national security of our beautiful nation.

God help us now when someone with such visceral hatred of conservative Christians—literally tens of millions of Americans—who says sharing this gospel is “spiritual rape” is helping develop policies for how to deal with Christians in the military.

Weinstein says those guilty of this “treason” must be “punished.” Under federal law, the penalty for treason is death. And the Obama administration is sitting down to talk with this man to craft new policies for “religious tolerance” in our military.

Is Baltimore’s plan to use female prison guards in a male prison working?

The liberal Daily Beast reports. (H/T Ari)
The secretary of Maryland’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services watched this week as the agency he has run for the last six years turned into a national laughingstock after federal officials indicted 13 women who, as guards at the Baltimore City Detention Center, acted like little more than underlings for members of a dangerous prison gang, the Black Guerrilla Family. Four of the correctional officers became reportedly pregnant by the leader of the gang, and two of them had his name tattooed onto their bodies—one on her neck, the other on her wrist.

[...]The allegations unsealed in the federal indictment are eye-popping. Many have been quick to make the comparison to The Wire, the crime drama that put Baltimore’s criminal underworld into the public consciousness, but what appears to have gone on at the Baltimore City Detention Center, a medieval-looking hulk of a jail in the center of town, would strain the credulity of HBO. Female guards smuggled cellphones, marijuana, and prescription drugs to inmates. Gang members ordered hits from inside the jail and dined on salmon and Grey Goose vodka that was smuggled in on their behalf. Corrections officers stood guard for one another so they could have sex with inmates. They warned prisoners of upcoming searches of their cells by unfriendly colleagues. Tavon White, the leader of the Black Guerrilla Family who allegedly impregnated four of the guards and was there waiting for his murder trial to commence, was caught bragging on a wiretap: “This is myjail. You understand that? I’m dead serious. I make every final call in this jail.”
Maybe we should be setting some limits on the feminist idea that men and women are interchangeable, and that women have to make up have the workforce of every job that men do. That’s the feminist ideal, but I don’t think that customers (in this case, the taxpayers) are well-served by it.

If we as citizens keep voting for bigger government, we need to understand that government is thoroughly compromised by left-wing ideologies that are not interested in producing results for us. If you want to get value for money, you go to the private sector and buy something from a private business that is accountable to you on price and quality. We already have lots of private sector run prisons here, and they work better than Baltimore, that’s for sure. Even other countries have tried privatized prisons, why not Maryland

Is the US Military Preparing To Court Martial Christians?

Is the US military preparing to court martial Christians?

There are simply too many "coincidences" happening in the military in the last few months for this to be anything but an all out assault on religious freedom within the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. for background to this blog see my previous posting: Rabid Hatred: Pentagon Taps Anti-Christian Extremist for Religious Tolerance Policy.

This should concern every American as the military, at the behest of the Obama administration, attempts an all out assault on the first amendment.

The United States is becoming a hate-filled, tyrannical, socialist state and people need to wake up.

More background on this can be found on the third hour of today's Janet Mefferd Show when she interviews Lt. General Jerry Boykin. I urge all of you to listen to this interview.

Listen. the time for acceptance is over. Americans must say no. Sign the FRC petition today while you still have the freedom to speak out.

Pentagon: Religious Proselytizing is Not Permitted

by Todd Starnes

Religious liberty groups have grave concerns after they learned the Pentagon is vetting its guide on religious tolerance with a group that compared Christian evangelism to “rape” and advocated that military personnel who proselytize should be court martialed.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation is calling on the Air Force to enforce a regulation that they believe calls for the court martial of any service member caught proselytizing.

President Mikey Weinstein and others from his organization met privately with Pentagon officials on April 23. He said U.S. troops who proselytize are guilty of sedition and treason and should be punished – by the hundreds if necessary – to stave off what he called a “tidal wave of fundamentalists.”

“Someone needs to be punished for this,” Weinstein told Fox News. “Until the Air Force or Army or Navy or Marine Corps punishes a member of the military for unconstitutional religious proselytizing and oppression, we will never have the ability to stop this horrible, horrendous, dehumanizing behavior.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, told Fox News he was stunned that the Pentagon would be taking counsel and advice from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

“Why would military leadership be meeting with one of the most rabid atheists in America to discuss religious freedom in the military,” Perkins said. “That’s like consulting with China on how to improve human rights.”
The FRC has launched a petitiondrive urging Defense Sec. Chuck Hagel to protect the religious freedom of troops “and not to proceed with the purge of religion within the ranks called for by anti-Christian activists.”

Pentagon officials met with Weinstein and his group were to discuss a policy called “Air Force Culture, Air Force Standards,” published on Aug. 7, 2012.

Section 2.11 requires “government neutrality regarding religion.”

“Leaders at all levels must balance constitutional protections for an individual’s free exercise of religion or other personal beliefs and the constitutional prohibition against governmental establishment of religion,” the regulation states.

Military leaders were admonished not to use their position to “promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion.”

Weinstein said it’s time for the Air Force to enforce the regulation – with zeal.

“If a member of the military is proselytizing in a manner that violates the law, well then of course they can be prosecuted,” he said. “We would love to see hundreds of prosecutions to stop this outrage of fundamentalist religious persecution.”

He compared the act of proselytizing to rape.

“It is a version of being spiritually raped and you are being spiritually raped by fundamentalist Christian religious predators,” he told Fox News.

He said there is a time and a place for those in uniform to share their faith – but he took issues with fundamentalism that he says is causing widespread problems in the military.

“When those people are in uniform and they believe there is no time, place or manner in which they can be restricted from proselytizing, they are creating tyranny, oppression, degradation, humiliation and horrible, horrible pain upon members of the military,” he said.

Perkins said the military regulations have “Weinstein’s fingerprints all over it.”

“It threatens to treat service members caught witnessing as enemies of the state,” he said, referring to a Washington Post article highlighting Weinstein’s meeting with Pentagon officials. “Non-compliance, the Pentagon suggests, even from ordained chaplains could result in court-martialing on a case-by-case basis.”
The Pentagon confirmed to Fox News that Christian evangelism is against regulations.

“Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense, LCDR Nate Christensen said in a written statement. He declined to say if any chaplains or service members had been prosecuted for such an offense.

“Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the outcome in specific cases,” he said.

Ron Crews, the executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, warns that the Air Force policy would “significantly impact the religious liberties of Air Force personnel.”

“Saying that a service member cannot speak of his faith is like telling a service member he cannot talk about his spouse or children,” Crews said. “I do not think the Air Force wants to ban personnel from protected religious speech, and I certainly hope that it is willing to listen to the numerous individuals and groups who protect military religious liberty without demonizing service members.”

In an interview with the Washington Post, Weinstein called proselytizing a “national security threat.”

“And what the Pentagon needs to understand is that it is sedition and treason,” he told the newspaper. “It should be punished.”

Perkins said it was troubling the Obama Administration would place so much trust in someone like Weinstein.

“Unfortunately, it appears our military is on a forced march away from the very freedoms they are sworn to protect,” he said. “This language from Weinstein that Christians who share their faith or offer comfort to others from their faith in Jesus Christ is “sedition and treason” is a treasonous statement in and of itself.”
But Weinstein said they count thousands of Protestants among their ranks – and said they are simply going after fundamentalists.

“As soon as we find a fundamentalist Muslim, atheist, Jewish person or anybody else, we will be happy to fight them – but so far they have been few and far between,” he said.

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin, an executive vice president with the Family Research Council, told Fox News that he’s deeply concerned by what he call a pattern of attacks on Christianity within the military.
“Mickey Weinstein has a very visceral hated of Christianity and those who are Christians,” he said. “He’d like to see it eliminated from the military entirely.”

If the Air Force policy is implemented, Boykin said Christians who speak of their faith “could now be prosecuted as enemies of the state.”

“This has the potential to destroy military recruiting across the services as Americans realize that their faith will be suppressed by joining the military,” Boykin said.

In the meantime, Weinstein and his group said they will continue to push for the Pentagon to fully implement its ban on proselytizing.

“There is a time, place and manner in which proselytizing is not only allowed, but it’s something we support among our Christian clients,” Weinstein said. “However, you can’t scream fire in a crowded theater and you can’t scream Jesus in a crowded theater at certain times, places, and in certain manners.”
