Chocolate Midnight Cake Is In the Oven

Chocolate Midnight Cake is in the oven.

This recipe has been in my family for over a hundred years. It came from my great-grandmother who go it from her mother. I love the "old-timey-ness" of this. And it is a great cake!

Cream:
1-1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening

Add:
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Dissolve:
1/2 cup cocoa

Into:
1 cup hot water

Pour:
Into batter and stir until smooth

Then Pour:
Into greased, floured cake pan
Cook in 350 deg oven until done.

TOP:

When cool top with peanut butter icing.
