This is a very basic primer on on the mental and physical benefits of meditation and an overview of how meditation is used in different traditions from Hindu to Islam, Christian, and the various schools of Buddhism written in the style of the 'Idiot Guides.' This is not a 'how to' book but is still a worthwhile browse for those who have had little exposure to meditation.
